again to do a big area your gonna be needing a lotta weed killer. weed killer is better used to keep new weeds from growing further rather than to clear a huge area. The cheapest and quickest way is to use a strimmer. Or get a farmer and tractor to flail it for you.
Nah, you need to get in these guys (Might be showing my age here).
Or on a more serious note, after they've died down for the winter get a tin of Round-Up and one of those pressure sprayers that you carry on your pack (looks like one of those packs from Ghostbusters), and treat the area before they're due to come up again. Guarantee the fekkers won't come back then.
But just cutting them means they will come back the following year, the weed killer I use is the same sort of stuff you see the council spraying, it comes in a 4l bottle and is diluted with water then you stick it in a sprayer you put on you back. I did my pump track a few weeks back all i am left with is brown dead weeds that can be raked up
Get some sheers and cut them down, get in there to cut as low down as possible. Then use a spade to knock them down alternatively walking through them is quicker. Then get a rake to get ride of them. A mattock is useful for getting out any bigger roots from the brambles etc. Also dont be afraid to get cut. After clearing my last section like this we did a really good job and it looked like the path was always been there but my arms were shredded
Ive got a massive bush of nettles & weeds at the end of my garden. its not mine, but im gona knock the wall down & claim it (when i do my 'ickle pumpy tracky) & i was gona use a 3' bush knife & attack them with lots of bad words & behaviour..
petrol, massive amounts of weed killers any thought about the environment??? not to mention that if you get caught using petrol in this manner you will be prosecuted!!
controlled burning gets my vote, gets rid of everything but also lets things grow back on areas that arnt riden and releases nutrients back into the ecosystem thus improving the habitat, for a small area i think this is the best bet
hi guys i have a sort of similar problem so sorry for the hijack but i thopught it was better than a new thread,
Where im building my trails the area in some parts in covered in about 2-3 inches(maybe more) of moss type stuff and grass, now i have been digging and raking inbut its efin hard word that way so is there an easier way todo it??
Would burning in do anything? would prefer not to burn it though and would rather use weed killer BUT only if it WORKS.
we have a similar problem at our dh tracks. the best thing we found was to work in groups one with a mattock and one with a hard rake. its effing hard work but we found no other way that works well. once you have cleared it leave it for a while before you ride it and it will be fine. blood, sweat and a really sore back is the way to go.
