The BMX trails I have been digging were on similar ground, although not many stingers thankfully - just long grass.

What we did was trample the grass, and just turf the lot.  We then used this turf to build our jumps with!  Seeing as you're going to be digging a lot of holes anyway, this gives you a huge amount of building material and gets the job done a treat.  We haven't had to dig a single hole, and we're on our 4th jump already, and they're not exactly small!  Then, after a while the weeds will begin to come through the jumps to 'camoflage' them into the surroundings.  Juts use a hoe to remove and weeds on the faces of both the take-offs and landings.

Mine are no trampling brambles...

I want a top section on one of the tracks, but its about 5ft in brambles, the really really thick stuff... (and doesn't really die right down, as I've been in that area for a couple of years now).

Burning it, or a petrol strimmer is out of the question, as I'm not meant to be there...

Ideas?

A good ol' fashioned stick and beat the f**k outta it! Then use a set of cutters, or a sharp spade to cut it near the ground, as brambles don't tend to snap that well.  It's a lotta work, but you'd be surprised how easily you get in to it.  Before you know it you'll be hours into it!

Oh, and buy some DECENT gardening gloves!

I used a mattock on tough brambles, using the axe blade to break the stems then digging the root ball out.  Rather than gardening gloves I used pvc coated puncture resistant gloves to help when pulling / moving the brambles.

Actually, my mate cleared like 10 feet of brambles in 3 hours with a rake...

So the best way is to set a ginger Oliver loose with a rake and piss him off...
Works every time! Grin
