Certainly "back in the day" when I did SAMS races in 1997-2000 there was a bunch of guys who raced under Army sponsorship.  Were a few RAF & Navyers too I think.

The ACU have their own website here: http://www2.army.mod.uk/sportandadventure/clubs/army_cycling_union/events/mountain_biking/index.htm

I'm ex-Army but I rode a couple of times for them in enduros as a MoD civvie. I'd be quite interested to do so again if it does happen. Trouble is, cycling isn't a recognised sport in the Army (it is in the RAF and RN which is why you see so many teams from them) so you might have a little trouble.

I remember seeing a couple of Navy guys racing at Cheddar. Everyone sang “In the Navy” every time they went past on a run  Grin

Don't think the navy has a team,i know from looking into it a while back that the raf do have a dh team. I'm in the navy and the RN cycling team is geared towards road racing,xc and time trials from the look of there web page so for me to start racing i'd have to compete in a joint services set up representing the RN and i think its in a civvie series, poss sda and you compete civvy wise but also get points for joint services and they use the mega avalanche as the final round which would be cool. Fancied racing next year but typically i'm away for the first 6 months of next year  Embarrassed
If anyone in the RN does race with funding let me know how and where.
cheers

The Army does have its own club for want of a better word the ACU,which covers all discilpines incuding xc and DH of which I am a member and ride for.

Im trying to get new people in to raise the DH side of life and compete with the others RAF RN etc who do have and have raced this year in the CSR races series which incorporated the SDA and Pearce cycles series.

I'm going to be joining the ACU next year.  i'm just coming to the end of my afghan tour at the moment.   hoping to do a lot of racing/riding with the army next season.  when does membership run from/to?  are there any organised events over the winter?  i've got 9 weeks off between now and january...

Good to hear some more forces people around.  I'm in the marines and thought about joining the RN/RM cycling club, however having seen the website, thought they were heavily in to XC and road biking.
I live in the Quantocks where there are a couple of good shorter local downhill tracks.  Give me a pm if you are across this way and fancy a ride.
