It isn't a whip and it doesn't look cool imo, the coolness of  whip is the way the bike is thrown in a big arc seemingly pivoting around the rider. the only reason these abortions happen on mtb's is because they are too easy to chuck around its pretty much impossible to get a mx bike like that to whip them you gotta carve the track off and lean and go into a real whip which looks 10x better imo, looks way more flowing and stylish and cool.
But on the bright side your most of the way to getting a turndown Grin or with the bars straight an un-turndown.

yeah, i know what you mean all of my mates ride mx and i have riden mx b4, but its hard to find that jump what you can carve and scrub mx style, ive been trying to practice that but its hard, you need to have lots of air and a long jump, it is maybe doable on the triple, next time i go to chicky im gona try to do it on the triple, carve it more;)

And oo ahh i doo love mx scrubs, i need to learn it on mtb :Cheesy

this is how its done !!

nah that isnt a whip, it's a kick out.

i did say that "whip/kickout". it depends what people think a whip as, tbh i would call it a kickout.

Yeah, it does. I can whip/kickout/whatever the bike like that, but I sure as hell can't pull it back!

So if we're being pedantic, would a whip be - turning on takeoff, bike and body both turned the same way (and bars), then brought back straight in a big long s shaped motion? Does the bike have to be upright or laid down for it to be a whip?

with a whip the bars guide the rest of the bike through it in a sort of S shape, with a 'kickout' like in the picture at the start of this thread, the frame is kicked out to the side while the bars stay pointing in mostly the same direction as travel.
