Headset's with a large lower stack height?
« on: October 01, 2008, 00:34:48 AM »

Hey.

Just wondering if anyone knows of any headsets with a larger than normal lower stack height. I'm aware of the On-One smoothie +5mm headset, which has a lower stack height of 20.1mm. But want to know if there are any other options out there?

Also, does anyone own an On-One smoothie and could tell me what they are like?

Nice one, Borgia

Hi

Not sure if this is off any use.  But when I built my Curtis SX up, I found that my forks fouled the down tube, I was using a Chris King Headset.  I spoke to Bromley Bike Co about the options and they had some 5mm Chris King Steerer crown races, that solved the problem.  Basically the standard crown race was removed and the new 5mm crown race fitted and problem solved.

Below is a pic of my bike, you can just about make out the 5mm crown race.

Hope this makes sense if you need any further info please let me know.

I used a smoothie on my turner, solved my downtube/fork top bang.  I also have to take off the pre-load knob off my forks. 2008 66 rc3's, as they have the stupid bottle top size adjuster!  Most forks should be fine though.
