Specialized SX Trail 2008 - Chain Guide??
« on: October 05, 2008, 12:43:57 PM »

HI

Just put my new SX together with a MRP Carbon  back plate (old ISCG) and there does not seem to be enough clearance for it on the rear triangle for the chain to run.

Has anyone had this problem? Any advice

What is a proven chain guide for the SX

All Specialized bikes are ISCG OLD.

You need to machine away a bit of the MRP's backplate because of the SX's dropped chainstays.

CHeers bud

For some reason even if I had to shave away some of the backplate it doesnt leave enough space for the chain to run over the roller.

Dont realy want to change to a bb mount plate so would rather find out if a specific chain guide would work.

Try researching into the Gamut- very easy to fit, and mounts onto the otherwise troublesome Commencal Mini-dh ok.

Send it back and get a BB fit one. They fit just fine. The ISCG tabs on the SX trail are way out which make them unusable.

Yeah I've been down this road, I managed to get a boxguide to work perfectly on my sx and was really easy to fit. TBH though unless you want to go hacking up chainguides I'd get a bb mounted one. My mate runs a gamut on his with no trouble, I think thats the ISCG one too so that may be another one to think about.

THe only problem I have with the bb mount is that if you give ii a whack over a rock  it loosen the bb.

I have decided to drillsom ewholes into te back plate to make it fit.

With the right slalom backplate, and the lower roller properly tucked away it'd be very hard indeed to catch it. I haven't managed in three years.

It's worth noting that should you take out the chain decice with a bodged up ISCG system, you're going to have to take the cranks off to reposition/retighten it anyway. What you gain on the swings...
