Rubbish, lowering and raising the bars doesn't change the angle at which the forks lie to the ground. Lowering your bars will move your body weight more towards the front of the bike, most consider this more "attacking" position better as having more weight at front helps the front wheel grip etc. You might find the steering gets a little quicker becuase now that your weight is more forwards the forks sag more and so the head angle steepens, however if you sag was correct before hand you would add a little compression dampening to counter this and restore head angle. I also find the front end feels stiffer, it shouldn't i'm sure and it might just be a placebo effect but I like it.

It makes no difference at all. The lower crown is the only one that will affect the height of the front of the bike.
The bigger issue is the drop crown doesn't fit round some 1.5" HT & headset combinations so you can't get the crown flush to the headset for a low stack height.
why didn't rockshox produce them with flat crowns to begin with and have the drop crown as an option, rather than the other way round?
they seem so much more popular.
If Rockshox sold the forks with flat upper crowns and had the lowered ones as aftermarket, then the drop crowns would be considered the 'cool' ones. Did not Dirt do an article on this years back. Anything where 10% of people have/like something is considered cool. More than 10% it is considered 'common' and doesn't have the appeal any more.

The drop crowns fit all bikes, the flat crowns only fit bikes with short head tubes. So it makes sense to bring one in and offer the other as an option.

No it doesn't, but lowering the crowns on the stantion like we're talking about does.
Flat crowns make almost no difference at all, they look slightly better and they are probably a little lighter, as said they also don't foul some top tubes, that's it, no performance or angles differences at all, the lower crown (axle to crown height) is the one which affects your head angle and you have a much wider choice of axle to crown height with a drop crown than a flat crown.
Orge.
