Sore hand
« on: October 06, 2008, 15:38:25 PM »

I went riding on saturday for the first time in ages and my hand felt a bit stiff afterwards, so i thought nothing of it and just kept on with everything as usual, now its tender between my thumb and index finger inside where the muscle is, seems to be getting worse as days go on, so any advice/thoughts of whats going on?

Cheers

id say its just a pulled muscle mate.
Your best bet is to Do 'Hot and Cold' on it (get some of those heat packs and some ice and alternate between both, do atleast 2 minutes on each for around 10-20mins)

Also make sure you rest it and dont over do it (yes i appreciate its your hand and you use it ever day but you know what i mean)

Could always go to the Doc's just to get the A ok that its just a normal pulled muslce. i just got back from the docs from a seriously pulled muscle in my leg and theyve pre-scribed me some gel stuff.....

And id also not recommend taking paracetamol, Purely because your masking the pain, meaning in the long run you could cause more injury that at first you may not be aware of.

Hope ive helped

Personally i wouldnt recommend playing rugby with a pulled muscle in your hand.
To be honest youve got a choice.....
Its either
  • rest it for atleast 2, maybe 3 weeks and be fine afterwards
or
  • play rugby with it and risk injuring it more, therfore giving you atleast 5, maybe 6 weeks worth of pain and waiting for it to heel
if you play on it you can definatly bet yourself youl be missing more than one game, unlike if you went for the first option.

Its a tough choice to make as i can understand youd like to play rugby but its really not in your best interest
Not trying to tell you what to do, just trying to recommend to you whats in your best interest.

Training went all good without any pain except the odd sharp nip so it should be all good for next week, i slept last night with it supported (tightly wrapped up) and this has helped alot.
