I'd opt for a SRAM chain personally, as I'm sure most others would on here.  Generally seem to be more reliable.

As for the cassette, it's really up to you.  They're all compatible with eachother, as long as you get the right chain for the number of gears you're running on the back (i.e. a 9spd set up won't run with an 8spd chain).

And for your cable, a standard gear cable will do the job fine.  Try and get teflon coated ones if possible (usually black).  They're much less likely to sieze than a regular cable.

Its OE (destined for complete bikes)

All it means is there is no box- Shimano is the same OE or aftermarket.

Strictly its not covered by the same warranty, but CRC will help you out with that (all parts sold in the EU should have two years, but CRC aren't meant to sell OE kit- they do, and you make a saving usually)

its built like a brick s**t house. but everything on it seems fine after checking the movement in my hands and what not Cheesy

was just curious as to why they would send it like that. but now i know everything i need to so

lol ive been looking at the instructions for the mode converter and its abit odd.

it says for a cassette with 34t cog : x
for a close ratio set 26t: -

i will be using a close ratio so does this mean i need the mode converter on or off?

(edit) just found what i as looking for

so for anyone else who wants to know:

Quote
Possibly most important is a little feature Shimano just came up with is called a "mode converter." This is a little bracket that fits on the backside of the derailleur just below the pivot. It comes pre-installed. When it's in there, the derailleur is in AM mode. The derailleurs upper jockey wheel is held further away from the largest cogs of wide-ratio cassettes, like 11-32 and 11-34. By removing the mode converter, the derailleur is in DH mode. The upper jockey wheel can swing closer to the cassette cogs, making shifting faster when using 11-23, 12-25, and 11-28 cassettes.
