Also read a small bit about the Hutchinson Barracuda, this seems hard to find and quite expensive.

Verticals are awful, avoid.  Too big/tall casing for their weight so flex alot.

Barracuda's arn't that bad, but by no means good, the ones i had on my bike, had silly thin side walls and punctured every 5 seconds, grip wise the compound seemed hard, and they seemed to work well out back, though you couldn't properly rag it on the back else you'd get a puncture.

Haha.

Am I being stupid or does the tread patter look similar to swampy's?

I've got verticals on my bike. Not gonna buy them again. They might well have grip over roots and the like but they sure as hell don't inspire confidence.

considered 2.35 High rollers? Light, fast, pretty grippy too. I run one of those up front (I did run one on the rear but kept getting pinch punctures) and it was pretty good.

Im still mulling...

How about:

Maxxis Larsen TT FR 2.35 Single Ply MaxxPro 60a
+ High Roller 2.35 front

or

Michelin Expert Mountain Xtreme 2.2 rear
+ Michelin Mountain All-Terrain Reinforced 2.35

My Verticals have been brilliant. Taken them down Inners and Fort William, and only had 3 punctures in total, and they could have been prevented with a DH tube. At Inners they were better than the Minions that a friend was running, so much so that I was only a few seconds slower than him (him being on a Yeti DH9 and me on a Giant STP).
