me and a mate were having a chinwag and were trying to remember who it was that made that shaft driven downhill bike. It may have just been a prototype but I distinctly remember seeing one somewhere! Any help would be massively apprieciated - all the usual google searches have revealed nothing!

Doesn't the BMW just have a chain that goes up to another sprocket which is on a shaft that goes through to the other side of the frame then drives the back wheel from there by another chain?

Unless you mean shaft drive because it has that one small shaft?

(Sorry for the bad explanation) Tongue

I distinctly remember there being, at least a prototype, downhill bike which used it and everyone went mad for it for a short period of time thinking it was the next big thing!

Must cause some problems when applied to a full susser. If it can be made to work looks likea good idea really, use a light carbon or Ti shaft hmmm. How do they shift gear? I cant see in the pics, looks as though it has a regular casette maybe? Hope someone can come up with the goods on this shaft driven DH rig!

your not wrong, i remember that too. im sure there is a dh bike of some sort with a shaft drive. it was in a mag a while ago. there was also a bike at the world cup (fort william) that has some sort of trick drive system. cant remember what it was tho....  Undecided could have been shaft drive.... lol

Aren't BMW motorbikes shaft driven? If so you could apply the same set up on a smaller scale, or work around the design to produce something more sutable for full suspesion mountain .

Can you change gear on a shaft driven?

Surely you'd need some kind of gearbox?

Hmmm, intriguing  Roll Eyes

all you need to do is have the rear section fixed and the bb in that section then have the front section on sus dunno if it would work very good
