New Helmet Time: Strange Requirements
« on: October 11, 2008, 19:17:17 PM »

I need a new helmet I have a few already, an XC lid for gettingt o work and a full face for DH but I need something for inbetween, I don't want a dirt lid as I lok like a fool in one.

Anyway I need something more protective yet not as hot as a full face as a do it all lid for riding to work, to the trials and for DH.

I found those TLD lids with the fornt piece missing and it seems to fit the bill as it will protect me when riing to work and to the trails and where I ride it's quite open so should be fine for there.  Also seems nice that I can ride it to work without my googles on and then put the googles on for the real riding.

Only thing putting me off is the price.

Anyone got any thoughts.

I have condered those moped open face ones with the visor removed but I think I'd look a real prat at the trials.

MET Parachute if there still around? XC style with a chin guard that can also be removed, so you can have it off for work etc and on for trails?

......Man up and either put up with breathability and less protection, or less breathability with more protection....

In my opinion i cant justify having 3 helmets  Undecided
why spend more money say....£90-£200 when it isnt reeaallllyyyy needed..

I'll get rid of my XC lid.

Would you ride 10miles to work on a DH bike with a Full face on, I know I'm not, it gets hot enough with just an XC lid and my bag for work on.

isn't there a giro? it was either the semi or the mx? Can't seem to find it anymore.

If not, the hex offers a little bit extra protection than a standard xc style lid.

The Giro Semi MX was discontinued quite a while ago, which is a shame as it was a great helmet. My one is still going strong. A few of Giro's snowboarding helmets resemble it, as does the Fox Flux, which I've been looking in to for a replacement when my Giro dies.

Road helmets provide less protection than an XC lid.... i dont see why you are scared about riding with just an xc lid? JUst get a piss pot, end of the day safety > looks.

I've just started riding from Charing Cross to Camden Town every day to cut out tube travel, I use a dahon curve16 inch wheeled  folding bike that I can get on the train with from home and I wear my trusty old tsg pisspot.  I don't give a sh*t what people think I look like, I agree most drivers are t*ssers but safety comes first.

have you looked at th fox flux?they're sort of in between
