Massive Cramp - Calf damage?
« on: October 13, 2008, 07:43:00 AM »

Easy all,
Well whilst I was at chicky yesterday I suddenly got the worlds worst cramp in my leg, so bad I was lying on the floor for about 10 minutes whilst it calmed down and could barely walk on it afterwards, woke up this morning and thinking it was gonna be ok put some weight on it, but it still freaking kills and am struggling to walk on it properly!! What's that all about? I always assumed cramp was never that bad and disappeared after a small amount of time!! Anyone offer any advice on what's up and how to treat it?

It's moveable but it just really hurts, I can point my toe out, but it hurts a lot when I get my foot around 90 degrees to my leg and any nearer!

yea its most probably a muscle problem, id suggest getting this spray thats called deep heat and it relaxes the muscles which are contracted. but just to be safe you could go to your local doctor to have a check up

I've had cramp that has hurt for several days (but faded over that period) - when you cramp up real bad you can pull muscles. Only you know how bad it really is, but it may be worth getting checked out.

If you're worried Andy I'd go get it checked out...but as said sounds like muscle damage. I want to say put heat on it, but you can never be sure. See what the quacks say.

I have exaxtly the same thing at the mo except not a result of cramp... I had a rock smash nice and fast and it feels like my muscle has just seized up, like you say my foot cannot pass over 90 degrees when bending my leg, and I think I may have damaged something too, but it seems to be on the mend, give it three days and if no better go to your doctor.

Guys you do realise that for the first 48hrs after an injury you should apply ice not heat! This helps keep swelling to a minimum where as heat (spray etc) will cause blood to rush to the site and cause more swelling and damage.
Ice for 10-20 mins every two hours in the first 48hrs with rest and elevation. After that then gentle stretching and maybe a little heat

I had this a few years ago on the london to brighton, caused by massive dehydration, i had both thighs and both quads cramp at the same time! never had pain like it before or since. i had to get a mate to pull my legs back out from underneath me.
It took nearly a year to get over that one, must have torn up my muscles a treat. make sure you drink plenty now and remember to drink lots when out to stop it happening in the first place. not just water either!
