Pro 2 problems

hi i juust got a 2nd hand 729 on a pro2 the wheel is f ine its just its my 1st descent rear wheel so not sure if its meant to do this?



when im pushing my bike the cranks turn but when i freewheel with weight on the cranks it doesnt do it.

it isnt the chain being too tight as its a 9sp set up, could it be the free hub bearings?

this use to happen on my hardtail, what i got told it is is that the wheel is directly inline, cant remember where i herd it but i made sure my rear hub was inline perfectly and it stopped freewheeling

it can be too much grease....

mine did this when i had a mini DH......i had no problems on when riding....just check everything is seated bearing-wise and that the ratchet/pawls are clean......it will bed-in when the ratchet runs in fella!

Too much grease usually stops the pawls from engaging cleanly so it'd slip if anything.

Might be worth checking that the spacers are in the right order in the hub- lots of info on the Hope website.

Could also be a sticky/seized bearing.

hi sorry its a used pro 2 but i was assured it was in good cond, if i keep riding will it damage it at all?

Theres a big dust seal that sits in the slot on the inner part of the freewheel, take your cassette off and see if its the right way round ( there should be an outer ridge then a recess showing) if not it will bind against the hub.

Check the freehub bearings.  Take the cassette off, spring the wheel and stop the freehub.  There should be very little (i.e. tiny big of grease in the pawls) resistence in the freehub and the wheel should continue to spring for a while.  You'll feel it through the freehub body if a bearing is shagged.

as above, noramally too much grease in with the pawls, either put up with it for a few rides, the seals are shite so it will free up with a bit of wet riding or pull off the body [with cassette removed] and wipe some out. could be a broken spring, but you'll see if you get it off. Smiley

I sold the Pro 2 to the guy.

When I had it is was fine, although while I was packing it to post, the freehub did slide off the hub, so perhaps it's worth pulling it off and putting it back on again, perhaps one of the pawls didn't go in straight, although I'm pretty sure they went back together fine. Are you running it on a horizontal dropout frame?

nope normal dropouts, its not beeen so bad today but i will whip it off when i get me tools back and see whats what,
