I have bad memories of trampoline biking... building up my old Saracen for that purpose the only forks I had were some rusty old RSTs. And so, bouncing away, off comes the top cap and the spring goes smack into my cheek.

That was on my friends trampoline, his parents weren't too happy!

Your best bet for keeping the mat ok is to  get a large old ground mat or a sheet that you put in the car to keep it clean and lie it loosly over the tampoline. Then tie it down at the corners to the springs, rails or whatever. It keep the mat hole free.
