Haldon is alive & kickin'!!!!!
« on: October 21, 2005, 17:05:38 PM »

Grin ;DJust thought i'd let those peeps that don't know, that as i type this the forest enterprise is cutting a 10 km XC red route up at haldon + a freeride / DH area in freers wood (next to the sand quarry).  PLUS............ the old DH/freeride area behind the crash barrier off Old Haldon Road will have several black graded DH routes.

The guy in charge, Mike is a Mtn biker and is well up for rider input /  help, so if yer creative when it comes to buildin' awesome tracks, get yerself upto haldon on Sunday mornings to help out with the building.  At the mo, there is a sweet 8ft+ drop-off ( upto 10-15ft if your fearless) which the FE have ok'd!

So if your interested in getting somewhere decent to ride in the SW, get yer Arse up to Haldon this wk/nd.

Cheers

'Tis true, there's been between 6 and 10 people up their for the last few weekends.

Should have a good turn out this weekend as we will have a digger and dumper truck (fingers-crossed) so should be able to build jumps and berms much quicker.

Most of the FE still don't like the word downhill as it conjures up images of broken bodies and lawsuits but in theory the red/black XC stuff should link in nicely with the freeride area to create a nice little run from the start of the quarry all the way down to the end of the woods - hopefully a good 2/3 min run.

Serious bit now... for god's sake don't just go up their and build whatever you like. Work with Mike and Tim (FE) and the volunteers and have your input that way. If lots of sh*t jumps and shore goes up then the FE will pull it all down again.

See you sunday

yeh totally, we've gotta keep this real!
the guys from the FE etc are V keen for our input, but don't turn up there with yer spades and start diggin' your own routes.  Cos it will P**s off a lot of people and Jeopardize the whole scheme of things.

To add to all that SMART are running a training uplift day on 20th November with Craig Sheffield coaching.

We are also running a summer x.c. series Blazing Saddles on March 28th, June 25th July 30th and September 2nd.

Things are going really well with and thanks to the Forestry.

We are also looking to B.C. for some funding towards a club house for all the clubs to use. More info on this soon. Grin

Sounds pretty good will have to pop up the road when I get a  motor sorted. What's the difference between a red and black route?

Ahh awesome to hear this! I'm up for helping out whenever I'm not at uni, I used to ride there just before it got torn down. Just gotta get some knobblies for the new bike and I'm set!

Good job everyone who has been involved - it sounds really well organised; and sustainable which is great.  Smiley

yeah there's a track above these pics, running from the road at the top.  Plus Haldon Ridge has got a fair few runs in the forest ranging from nice flatish routes for beginners to more short tech DH / XC runs.

It's about an hour and a half from Bristol.  Haldon Ridge is the big hill where the A380 to Torquay & the A38 to Plymouth join at the botom of it.  Exeter racecourse is on the top, the trails are towards a white tower called Haldon Belverdere.

Yep kinda Telegraph Hill!

Its all happening the other side past the Gypsy site, under the A38 in the woods between where the cotton reels are and the sand/gravel quarry.

If you know of any one whos preferably over 16 and keen to lend a hand in creating this; then get up there Sunday mornings around 9.30 on.

The more help - the quicker its built! Grin
