FAO: The racers of 8 years +!
« on: August 09, 2008, 14:15:49 PM »

Local to where I live, there is a forestry commission owned piece of woodland, and there used to be a DH track there but it stopped being used because alot of it got felled, (except for the final section where a few obviously man built drops and corners still remain).
It was at the Minton Forestry, located near the gliding club on the Long Mynd.
I was up there the other day with a few friends to have a look if we could find any where to start building a/the track again, and we came across a 'path' in some of the new trees, seemed like a MTB track as it had a lot of what seemed to be braking bumps, but it was very straight and steep which made me think it could have been the remains from a MX/trials race.

Came home and had a search on here for 'long mynd' and unrooted this topic..

Which then led to some race results from the Long Mynd round of the midlands series, dated back to 2000.

So I was curious if anyone on here can remember the track at all?! (Long shot, I know! Cheesy).
Or even if there were any photos etc floating around from it?

Any help would be great!

On a lighter note, check out the race times. Beaumont in youth taking the win by over ten seconds on a 2.5 min track! Easy too see what Peaty saw in him.

Yeah I remember it well, it was quite a good course actually. A bit pedally and straight at the top, but it got better after the fire road into some switchback corners in an open section, before dropping steep into the finish. The race was organised by the Brain Family and Pearce Cycles, but the venue got abandoned because the hill isn't that big and the car park was miles from the track.

I also know the Forestry Commission are quite keen on developing tracks in there so if you go to them with your plans they may well grant permission. You need to speak to Dennis or Georgina.

Hope this helps...Ian White (3rd in Senior)
