hey, this may be a bit of a useless thread but my hub was really bad and i was convinced it was knackered but i had a good look at it to see if i could do anything and i took the rubber seal thing off and oiled it then tightened a bolt up put it back together and it was completely fine and i don't understand what was wrong with it because before it moved from side to side alot and was very wobbly

although don't use oil on your hub my friend, it won't really last as long as if you invest in a tube of teflon or lithium grease

remember the outside 'nut' is only a lockring and doesn't actually adjust the cones on either side of the hub.
the inner most cone is adjustable and then the outside locks against it (using two spanners)

Yeah next time use grease. Oil isn't really designed for that.

I have always tightened up cones with my fingers until i cannot turn them any more, then give them a half turn with some cone spanners. this seems about perfect. there is nothing worse than overtightening cones.
