competitions/races?
« on: January 02, 2006, 16:35:10 PM »

I am looking to participate in competitions for the first time. I own a Saracen X-ile 05 bike (hard tail) with upgraded Marzocchi Dirt Jumper III '05 fork and  hydraulic disk brakes. I would like to know if there are competitions or races (DH, urban riding etc.)  that I can participate in, close to London, and also what more is required. I have knee and elbow protection and full-face helmet. Please let me know of specific events and locations, if you happen to know.

Thanks

http://www.britishcycling.org.uk/calendar/2004/calendar_contents.shtml
and the race specific boards at the bottom will be the best places to look.
I'm not too good with Geography or in the South so don't slate me if i'm wrong but PORC and Aston are probably the closest then the Midlands Super Series and Race face series after that.
All have their own sections on here so check them out there.

Helmet and gloves are compulsary at all races including regional bsx- armour is probably a good idea for begginers (well everyone really) but you dont have to wear it.

Yeah as Chris said Porc (Kent) and Aston Hill (Buckinghamshire) are probably the closest places for you. Take a look in The Porc and Aston boards and they will tell you when the next races are.

Thanks for your reply. Some more questions:
Is my hard-tail bike suitable for these races? Are the bikes taking part in those races hard-tail? And how difficult are those races for first-timers?
