First 18 months experience of mountain biking..
« on: January 06, 2006, 17:32:03 PM »

So kinda left things a bit late, now 32 but decided fack it as did mate and we went a bit mad with the biking over the past 18 months begining to think I might need to take up a different sport soon..

1) Cracked a rib in Wales half way round Marin for 1st time
2) cracked a rib over local bike park taking some work mates over for a laugh, great fun for them
3) Mashed collar bone, couldnt be pinned as I had bust something else, also mashed my neck a bit, still clicks now, did summat to chest/sternum that crappy NHS cant fix 3-4 times a day kinda locks up and lets out a massive crack and all the pain goes away! Also managed to snap my New Marz Z150 Drop off's, bent stnantion, cracked arms :0(  All this 2 months before I go to Morzine for the 1st time
4) in Morzine first flew about 10 foot down some roots and cracked another rib, but did manage to get the buckle of my back back printed into my side, in a pattern of a smiley face, stayed there for 2 months!
5) 2 days later in Morzine nosed it over a big rock on a technical section landed on other arm that wasnt facked, cracked it from shoulder bit down side of arm and bike hit me on the head, riding down the super smooth tarmac from avoriaz to Morzine, one handed after 5 beers was awesome.

Well thats it still cant put all my weight on my broken collar bone side but its okay for riding :0)

Just booking Les Arcs for this year, fingers crossed no breaks on the trips to wales, cannock and scotland before we go!

Gotta say tho hasnt changed my enthusiasm for riding, if anything even more determined to get better!

it sounds like you have been in hospital for more hours than you have on your bike

Hmmph I bought some Dianese full body armour in Chatel when I Was over last year, when I cracked my rib, the impact was the only bit not protected, how unlcucky is that!  As for the break in my arm I was told even with the armour wouldnt have mad in odds, I landed on the shoulder protector but as I have pretty big shoulders and arms the impact made the muscle kind of rip the bone in two, thats what the doc said anyways!   Angry
