editing pictures from a dv camera?
« on: January 25, 2006, 12:14:24 PM »

so who can help me with this one.

my misses got me a samsung dv camcorder for crimbo (bless her) but she drew the line at 200 quid so my camcorder hasnt got a usb interface,
it dose have a dv link and my laptop is dv compatible so is it possible for me to transfer the data from the dv cassett to my laptop for editing?

ive searched through my manuals and all it said is that without a usb interface im stuck with an iee1334 (or similar number) transfer (the dv link)
but all the manual tells me is that i can link the camera to the laptop and record images via the laptops 17 inch screen

if i cant get it onto my laptop for editing, how else can i put together a decent vid from all my clips? and if i can edit it on my laptop can anybody recommend a good (nothing too flash im skint) video suite

cheers

have you actually tried hooking up via DV cable mate? I think you'll find it will hook up fine. I've hooked my laptop to a few dv cameras with a DV / Firewire cable and grabbed the footage with imovie. I'm guessing there similar free software with a pc (assuming you're on pc)...

if your running windows xp and have windows movie maker installed, the steps below should be all you need to take....

1. Connect the dv cable to the camera and the laptop.
2. Turn the camera on to playback mode.
3. Windows Xp should automaticly detect the camera and launch a prompt box.
4. In the box there should be the option to capture video using movie maker.
5. When movie maker opens select the option to capture video footage manually.
6. The program will then connect with your camera and you should be able to play the tape and capture the parts you want.

If you dont have movie maker you can get it from the microsoft site in service pack 1 or 2
