Insurance Help.......
« on: January 26, 2006, 14:02:45 PM »

Right, i have no idea at all on how to do this....

So questions:

To work out the value of my bike do i go on how much the parts would have cost new, even though i got some second hand...

What insurance company gives the best service, mainly just paying out quickly if my bike gets nicked....

I use my bike for all sorts of stuff, DHing and hopefully will get into a race or two in the summer....

I live in the country so does that make any differance?

Won't be going abroad this year, but maybe next year....

So what do i do? Would the best idea just to phone up loads of differant companies and get a quote? Please can you say some companies and i don't know any.....

Thanks for your help

There are loads of ads in mbuk and the occasional leaflet as well, failing that check the yellow pages.

As for the value, you could ask them what they want when you ring up.

Calculate the full RRP value of all parts on your bike. This topic has been covered plenty of times, do a search...

house insurance wont give you the same cover as a bike company,

most will only insue your bike for upto 500 quid unless you name it as a personnel item on the policy document, doing that will hike your quote up a good few quid (which mummy wont like should you still be at home)

call your house insurance people see what they offer you for full value, then call a bike company, for a few extra quid youll get loads of benefits from a bike company like personnal injury cover, emergancy pick up service (if you loose your bike whle miles away from home) and even third party cover which is handy if you smash into a granny while bombing it down the shop at 5 in the morning to get rizla's............it happens ive done it!!

House insurance is for kid's bikes and stuff, not professional quality DH gear. Even if a household insurer did offer to cover it they won't pay out when they find out what it is.

In terms of value work on the full RRP value, provided you are insuring 'new for old' and you need to check that this is the cover you are getting.

I think Big Hit frames were

Marks and Spencers are good your covered at home, abroad and at races and if you insure all your home possesions etc as well. You get the bikes covered free. Way cheaper than some of those specailist insurers you find advertised in the magazines.
