UPDATE

Right, well after taking peoples advice on board here is my updated VP-free:

http://www.pinkbike.com/photo/789186/

http://www.pinkbike.com/photo/789184/

Its now weighs in at 36 pounds, so I am just one ellusive pound of my target weight.

Changes include new DT Swiss FR rims with DB spokes and xc tubes and the obvious change of forks to Fox 36's.

Preety pleased with it now, just waiting for Thomson Stem to arrive and I'm about there until I can afford to upgrade the chainset to something lighter and get a carbon chaindevice.

Took the forks out yesterday to give them a damn good thrashing and they are silly good, better than the boXXer WC's hands down.

Right, just need a Giro Swithblade and a Camelbak and I'll be a proper freerider...

Anyway, thanks for the advice guys and see you out in France/at the races later in the year!

my thoughts without reading anyone elses-

a tubless wheelset
an i-beam setup - lighter than any seat/post combo
a thomson elite stem
Ti coils in those forks
lighter chain device.

Who'd ride a bike like that, heard vp-free's are for girls.

I-beam would be lighter but then you'd be sacrificing function over weight. Stick with the thompson and go witha lighter saddle. Could go for the mrp type 3? Would look better too and then the stem does need changing as you said. Latex tubes and lighter tyres?

Latex tubes

Only time I use latex Taff is when I am with your mum.

Can't be arsed with Ibeam, bit of a gimmick and with the Thomson post and a decent saddle it wouldn't be much lighter anyway.

Currently scouting the following which should finish the job:
Saints with carbon MRP
Thomson elite stem
Lighter saddle- Flite Ti' or similar.

Looks good! I'm going for some Long Travel SC's on my Nicolai to save some weight.

Fox DHX air will get your under the 35lb mark! Grin

Think I'll stick with the standard DHX for now, air version is still relatively untested. Got France looming as well, still don't fancy an air shock out there.
