best locations
« on: February 20, 2006, 13:20:26 PM »

does anyone have a favourite place for taking pictures? any favourite spots or anything?
i don't get to travel around much and i'm bored of hamsterley so i was wondering if there's any difference in the photographic qualities of the locations. i fancy going to scotland but it's always grim up there and all the downhill pictures i've taken recently are dull and muddy looking. they're alright but they're all the same and i fancy a change.
is there anywhere that you can take good riding pictures and include lush scenery?

Morzine and Les Gets. Oh and Alp Duez. Some of the most photogenic riding scenery ever.

However closer to home, many amazing spots can be found in the welsh valleys, the lake district etc.

Get up Ayton quary when some of the bmxers are riding, Carlton Bank always does good shots too but is slowly being ruined by Groms building rubbish jumps on every turn

How about just a normal scenery tour? there is no greater picture I think than a lock with an overcast sky, hills and valleys in the mountains. Its always good to get a mixture!

they have to be specifically bike pictures for what i want to use them for. i would like to try and mix some dramatic landscapes with riding though which is why i'm asking about locations.
this weekend i'm gonna try Ae and innerleithen i think just cos it's only a couple of hours away. would love to go to wales but i have to sandwich the massive journey between friday night and monday morning.

As Ady said, the lakes and north Wales are your best bets. Not much fun at the moment though, way too cold, better off waiting for the summer to take photos in the mountains.

The light can make a huge difference, it can turn a boring everyday scene into something special - sometimes you can get really nice pictures within a few minutes from where you live.

I like the look of the lake district though Roll Eyes

yeah, as roo said, the lighting makes the difference! Just shoot on a good day. If its raining / dull i'll usually just ride all day and never get the camera out, and the opposite on a sunny one

You probly wont be able to get there.... but i love my shots from guernsey (channel Ilslands).... kindof a french climate, so its got blue skies, very sunny all the time, and amazing scenery on most riding areas!

check out skandy32.deviantart.com for some examples, ( although some of those have been taken in portsmouth whilst i've been at uni. )

hmm, I like to keep my riding and photography seperate... my favorite place to shoot is a place in Stirling called Alva. Its a derelect industrial estate up in the hills, too much to shoot there.

i like loads of other spots too though, check out www.jamsee.deviantart.com

Such as smack, rival dealers and the other idiots from that area. No offence, just never got on with central belt, I know Alva's a nice place - unlike Clackmannan, Alloa and Sauchie. Would never dream of taking a bike or camera near those places never mind myself...

Always thought the riding would be good up the Ochils after doing some DofE up there, any good downhill or is it all nice singletrack?
