« on: February 20, 2006, 19:56:59 PM »

Has anybody had any expereince witht the D50 for riding photography?
what is the shutter speed like compared to the D70 and the Cannon EOS 300
Also the cheapest price i have found it as (for the kit with lense) is 450

thanks

Virtually identical to the D70 for riding pictures, the shutter speed max is 1/4000 but you will rarely have the light conditions to use one that quick...

I think it feels nicer than the 300D but best if you get to have a go with both.

My Dad uses a D50 for getting pics of me, its good in good to reasonable light levels, my dad doesnt get many poor shots from it. But as Roo said have a go with both, ive used both and fing the D50 a tad better although the E300 i was using was playing up in the cold!

I have a D50 and gives very good results!! For speed etc not much different to D70s.

Tried the canon EOS350D but the nikon felt nicer to hold and use and I felt out of the box was a better package!!

I have been told the Canon 350D is faster in low light and on multi shot and that it had a better processor than the Nikon! So should be a better camera but in order to compete on price the pay is that the Canon comes with a cheaper lens!! The standard Nikon lens supposed to be better and unless you plan on buying new lenses I think its a better all round deal. However if you plan to upgrade at a later!?!?!?!?

u mean telephoto - lol.

The D50 doesn't have a Depth Of Field preview - and also only had one scroll wheel, in instance for the shutter.

By the way people, how does the DOF preview work on the D70/D70s

If it's the same as on Canons, it basically stops the lens down to show you what will be in focus etc. Everything will go dark for a moment (especially if you have it on a tiny aperture) then your eyes will adjust and you'll see what will be in focus/out of focus.

With DSLR's, depth of field preview is really not important, you can just take a picture and look on the back to see the DoF and it's brighter.

I guess you are talking about the depth of field preview, it's to the bottom left of the lens if you are looking into the lens.
