o6 big hits
« on: February 23, 2006, 23:52:19 PM »

Thought I'd open this to the floor, I'm currently looking at getting a different frame may be, and noticed the frame only big hit is a seeming bargain.  It has 8" travel tips the scales at 10lbs and is half the cost of the other frames in it's class.  I've had a brief ride on one, but it had nasty 888vf's on it which dived all the time, so can't pass judgment.  Anyone know if they cut the mustard against the likes of coves similar travel bikes and santa cruz orange etc...?  Any thoughts welcome.

Never ridden one but theres a good chance it will be good since its a specialized. The new 06 enduro in Dirt got a good review so that may be something to go by.

only problems with my o3 Big Hit is the tyre choice of the 24" wheel and the badly designed rear mech hangar which breaks really easily. If Specialized have changed these and still kept the quality, bombproof, bumpsucking design they it will awesome.

I just prefer the swoopy looks of the 03...

tyre choice isn't tooo bad on the old ones........but as you'll get a new one you'll run 26/26 so its fine....

the old style bighits were amazing, great value, rode well, took many different spec options - the new one should be no exception

The big hit is probably 95% as good as an M3, a Sunday or anything else thats twice the price. Only a pro would notice the difference. So go buy one. The only disadvantage is that in 6 months everyone will have them.

Thanks for the opinions, keep them coming.  I'm going to test ride one again, soon, so will try to tune the fork first before setting out this time(tried one once, the fork spoiled the experience)!

damn right. all the gimps on here are too strung up on the kit they have to even realise that its the rider that counts. i should imagine the likes of steve peat could ride any downhill track faster on a xc bike than i could on my demo. go for it, i recon they ride nicer than my demo 8 and are really chuckable too...
