god dam collar bones

i've gone and broken ma coller bone and i was wondering how long (on average) it takes to be back on your bike?

If you were wondering how i did it, i went full pelt into a kicker, nosedived in mid air, flew over the handlebars and landed on my shoulder, snapping my coller bone.

well it depends entirely how bad the break is, as i had to have an op and wasn't back on my bike untill 4/5 months after i broke it.

it's definately not 6 weeks!!! I've sprained the joint in my collar bone and that will take 4 weeks. A collar bone break is between 3- 6 months depending how it's broken / been put back together etc

Dont ride untill it is fully healed, you will not regret it in the long run. Mine took about 8 weeks to get back to something like full strength, but I was young and it was a clean break.

Im 20 and did mine 6 weeks ago, it snapped clean in two places. it still hurts to try and use it too much. cant ride yet. im told i shouldn't for another 4 weeks and no racing for 4 weeks after that. Sounds bad mate i know but its better to wait untill your totally healed or else you will put yourself back to square 1. hope you get better soon mate. Grin

The pain will remind you not to ride, thats the best sign. The bone becomes "sticky" after 2 weeks and only starts to mend after 3 weeks. If you put too much pressure on it, youll be back to square one in no time.

You could probably do some light xc within 3 weeks but dont do anything more until your totally comfortable.

well i was out for nearly 5 months when i broke mine. DO NOT TRY TO RIDE BEFORE YOU ARE HEALED! i tried, and ended up re-breaking it a couple of times. just a lil ride here, just a hop off the kerb there, just a double  - crap - *snap*. It's really not good being off your bike for a few months on end, so just grin and bear it and be patient. good things come to those who wait.
good luck

my mate broke his collar bone in two places with unclean break about 4 or five weeks ago because of a bad bail, but he says the doctor say it will have healed in 3 more weeks
