Reducing travel on Marz DJ2's - any help greatly appreciated
« on: April 08, 2006, 19:23:40 PM »

Guys, about to but some 2004 DJ 2's and they are currently set up at 150mm travel. I know they can be reduced but is it as simple as just reducing the spring size?

I will be running them on a Tomac Omen for 4X, DJ and Street and so want to run them at 130mm tops.

Any ideas as to whether I can do this myself (ie cut the spring down) or what to buy to get the job done?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks

whatever is taken off the compression, needs to be put onto the negative side of the cartridge.

you could get a smaller spring, and use some kind of spacer in the cartridge to reduce them. the spacer would have to go ontop/below the top out bumper in the negative side of the cartridge for it to work. dont think im explaining this clearly. sorry.

They sound like the one's that came as standard on Big Hits, ie, they're OEM forks...  So they may not be adjustable...

they will probably have a spacer on top of the spring upderneath the topcap, this needs to be placed between the compression/rebound cartridge and the preload clp that holds the cart into the stanchion.that is if they can be reduced, so no cutting down of springs or anythign silly.

In theory it's perfectly feasable to reduce them to 130mm you simply need to get a 130mm spring and either a longer top out spring or a spacer for the existing one, there is certainly a 130-110mm travel reduction kit (see here) it might be a little trickier to find out what bits you'll need to go from 150-130mm.

Try e-mailing windwave about the parts needed for a travel change, or looking at the online tech support docs on their site.

Alternatively they do offer a travel change option with their fork servicing...

Good luck...
