Shock rebound leaking
« on: April 09, 2006, 12:19:44 PM »

Hi guys. I went out for a ride today and on the way back my rear shock (fox vanilla R) started leaking oil. I took it off the bike and it seems it only happens when the rebound is as fast as it will go and alot of oil comes out.

Anyone know whats wrong?

Any oil or gas leaking from a shock is wrong, Sounds like it needs a service, Tim Flooks is your best bet.

Damn, would it be better just to upgrade the shock now instead of servicing it and then eventually buyin a new one?

How much would a service cost? As I'm pretty poor at the moment.

Yer upgrading now would be the best option if you were thinking it anyway. If you were to fix it, use it for another few months then sell the shock im not sure if you would get the cost of the service back.

Stuff you need to know about servicing can be found here:

What shock were you thinking of replacing it with?

sounds like you unscrewed your rebound too much, get a RC f you can. You'll be looking at about 60-70 for a service or a s/h shck would be about 100-120

Seconded, Try get hold of an RC, Should come in the same lengths as the R and I used to have 2 and they were the most reliable and easy to set up shocks ive used  Smiley

I had the 03 Vanila RC on 2 Bighits (one got stolen and i got another one the same year) and had no problems with them.  Only thing is they are no longer in production but you may find a 2nd hand on here or Ebay. Im prety sure you will be able to get parts for them for some time as they were so poular  Smiley

Yeah mate as mentioned above an RC is by far your best option, try to get one later than an 02, I blew mine on my bighit however I think it was just a one off and havent heard of much going wrong with them apart from that.
