Crack or scratch?

Hi people, Just a quick question. Is there any way of telling whether something is a scratch or a crack? It's not on a weld, so I'm thinking it's a scratch but it looks a bit suspect...

have you removed the paint?

i think you can have frames x rayed, god knows where.  pics?

scrape the paint off and it should be fairly obvious.
