noisy hub
« on: April 10, 2006, 20:36:32 PM »

hi,
im building a cheapo budget dj bike and i wanna get the loudest hub i can find so i can piss off other djers at the trails. i know sun-ringle, hope and chris king are supposed to be pretty noisy but is there any cheaper ones i could pick up second hand or so?

i have dmr revolvers on my other bike and you can barely hear them

i think a hope xc will be the best cash-noise ratio, you culd always strip the hub down and remove all the hub from the pawls. But obviously i wouldnt advice it.

by removing the hub, i think you mean grease. removing the grease and replacing with a thinner oil will make the ratchet louder. but the oil wont last as long as the grease so unless you relube it often then the ratchet will wear down so much quicker.

but why do you want to piss people off?
getting something that will work and last is a much better idea. if you go for sound over performance then youre an idiot- for example, a hope xc may be fairly loud, but the axle will snap.

Profiles are loud as standard, but parker springs in hope hubs are the loudest ive heard of.

yeah i meant grease.
But i dont agree that the axle will snap on a hope xc at all. I had one on the back of my bighit and the back of my dual bike, and i know a few other people who run on them on dh bikes and dual bikes and theyve had no problems what so ever.

fair enough, but ive snapped three axles. then again i suppose i do ride fairly hard.

joef, is it actually possible to use parker springs? are they not far too wide? a few weeks ago my hub seized up and i found that all but one of the springs were f**ked, so i tried to replace them with biro springs. it took ages to get anything remotely good and even then it only worked a few rides because they were too wide. eventually i shelled out 16 quid for new pawls and springs.
so, has any one actually used parker springs and theyve worked? if anyones used normal biro springs, i dont beleive you. you must have a very thin biro.
