Some more for you critics.
« on: April 16, 2006, 19:37:48 PM »

If you take a picture you often see it in a different light to others who have never been to that place or know the people so I thought I would post my favourite pictures and you can tell me your HONEST opinion, preferably with explanation! What would you have done different? What don't you like? There have been some good constructive comments on other threads so I thought it would be interesting to see what others make of pictures that work for me.

As usual for me, the B+W ones are film and the colour are digital (D70), in brackets is the lens focal length used, I have listed the lenses I have a few posts down.

PIc 1: super nice only thing is maybe a touched too centred but that's a personal thing i love it.

Pic 2: The shadow across his chest bugs me (darn arm shadows eh), apart from that lovely colours and lovely dof.

Pic 3: Really nice, b&w works really, well and it leads your eye more and more into the picture and it's got a nice atmosphere to it.

Pic 4: Not a fan of this to be honest, kinda cool in an experimental way i suppose.

Pic 5: Really nice lighting, nice colours but again a little too centred for me, i do like the dof though.

Pic 6: I like the colours but the subject just doesn't do it for me, it just doesn't seem intersting enough personally, i spose it's a case of being there with that one.

Pic 7: Great lighting again but the background seems really cluttered to me and slightly distracting but then i guess it also givces the immpression of a jam.

Just what i get a first glance,

I'm going to go find my favourite's of yours  as i have about 5 i really really like.

Superb set of pics as usual!

1 - Cool shot, My eye is drawn straight to the front wheel.
2 - for some reason I keep looking at the tree first. A really nice shot again.
3 - B n W shots are always good.
4 - Ditto. Not sure if I want a little bit more detail from the front wheel or not? The Eyes have it!
5 - Nice
6 - Ditto
7 - I love Fisheye. I think everyone else should too!

Added pic 8, forgot about that one Embarrassed

Cheers for that, it's interesting as what you have said is virtually the same as what I think of each, except 4, I like loads and have got it printed out A1 size for my room Roll Eyes

I look foward to seeing which you pick out though.

Picture 1, its one of your best in my eyes. I love the angle and the colours, the whole thing works really well the blur is nearly spot on too.

I wish we had dj's around, I don't get the oppertunity to capture much jump stuff so when I do its not the greatest, you seem to have it dialled.

That is one of the few pictures I kinda imagined in my head before taking it but I know what you mean and included it because of that Smiley

Right,

Pic 1:Very nice, well used colours, background is blurred making the rider the focal point, overall colours of rider and bike contrast well with background again increasingly clarity.

Pic 2: OK, again brilliant colours. As someone else said the shadow bugs me a bit and personally i find it a bit boring.... (sorry!)

Pic 3: B&W good choice. Bit of a cliche but you seem to capture the mood and atomosphere pretty well.

Pic 4: Awesome pic, definetly one of my fav's. Dont know what it is about it, maybe the scruffyness/messiness of it. The black and white contrast brilliantly in their centres, yet the image seems to blend very well. You cant see much else of whats happening, giving the perception of the rider and his personal space. I love it!

Pic 5: Ok again i guess, i just find it a bit boring..... (again sorry!)

Pic 6: Ha ha that one is brilliant. Real appreciation for the fact you're showing the scene which never usually gets seen (if you see what i mean....) (Try saying that in one sentance). Not usual that the photographer/cameraman gets the recognition they deserve within a photograph, i always seem to get photos of other people, yet never any of me......  Sad.

Pic 7: Pretty nice again you've got the colours dialled. Good background on this one, makes the pic really.

Pic 8: Absolutely incredible, along with 4 my fav photo. Incidently, what lens are you using on that, because it looks pretty darn good quality. Timing, lighting and background setting are all fabulous, great stuff.

Right thats my rant over, all of them are still way above what ill ever manage, but i'll keep trying  Wink

Glad you like 4, it's a bit different  Smiley

The last one (Cool Was using a 10.5mm fisheye, but it's a nice location. Also the main flash you see isn't mine, me and a friend took our pictures at the same time, catching each others flashes!

Yeah I really like 1 and 8. Num 1 especially as its well dynamic and the lighting in it gives it a well ermm dunno the term but makes it look 3d?!

the others are nothing special really... like fair play better than the usual but there just standard pictures or people riding bikes.

As for the B&W one's the first I think would look well Crap in colour like almost as though you took a picture by accident but in B&W really gives it a well gritty feel which works well. As for the second B&W... sorry I just think its a mess!

What lenses you using on the d70?

That first shot just worked so well, doubt I would be able to do it again!

As for the 2nd B+W one, it's interesting how different people see it. It doesn't look as nice there as the physical print I have here unfortunately  Sad

As for the lenses, I will just put what I used under each pic as it may be of interest to others. But I have a Nikon 70-300 f4-5.6G, Nikon 10.5mm DX Fisheye, Nikon 50mm f1.8D, Sigma 20-40 f2.8 DG.
