Achey knee's.
« on: April 22, 2006, 20:36:04 PM »

I'm not sure what the problem is, but when I walk for 8hours (i do a job walking round) and my left knee aches'. I'm not sure if it's because I dont walk much (wheels are faster) but it hurts. it stops when I put a stretchy thing on it though. Also when riding it hurts, but if I ride with my shin guards on (24/7) then it doesn't, does this mean I'll get bad arthritis in later life? Sad

proabably best to go to the doctors mate. then they can prod and poke it and give you some pills to take.

Oh man  I 'effing hate the doctors, they've never helped me, they just tell me to go away and say its nothing to worry about. I told them my leg hurt before and they said it's probably sprianed or something. IMO doctors(GPs) are useless, they sit in their rooms all day not even doing heart surgery n that, they just perscribe things, and when it comes to applying a bandage or doing  a blood test, they tell me to book an appointment for one with a NURSE, when I'm in the room with the doctor, it takes what? 5minutes or less for blood, and yet they said I needed a nurse to do it.

If you are in your teens it's probably growing pains. If it's a real problem be persistant with your Doctor. Insist that you are referred to a specialst

I'm 17/18, I broke my left leg when I was younger. I dunno, it's fine if I keep it strapped up. Maybe my knee caps just a bit loose? I do walk for 8hours at tesco, and I stand up allot so it might just be because I get tired. I reckon we should get rid of the NHS, I think doctors would be better if they actualy knew you were paying them directly to treat you, rather than the nhs give them a lump of money and they get a bunch of people they have to treat, Y'know what I mean?

Could be a strain injury that physio would help but without getting it properly checked out it could just as easily make it worse.

Ring your GP and ask for a refferal to a specialist, its not quick though.
Took about 3 months for me to see a specialist, was then reffered to a better specialist about 6 months after who found a clean break in my wrist even after seeing an A+E nurse, GP and specialist.

The sooner you get it checked out the better

Cod liver oil, glucosamin and chonditrin will all help aswell. Pretty cheap from Health food shops etc. Spelling could be miles off though, just gone on the phonetics.

specialist takes ages, i waited over a year to see a specialist about my hip, eventually found out i had bursitus, an misplaces femur in my hip which in turn makes my knee face slightly in the wrong direction

had 5 lots of ultra sound for my hip, didnt work so was ment to get steroid injections to help, never heard anything of it

cant be arsed with the hassle now, so just get on with it, agony most of the time but i'm not waiting over a year to get seen to again

your best bet would be a sit down every couple of hours at work, i do the same at argos mate, even 5 mins or so every so often helps the pain a little

The leg break could have tweaked things out of line or it could have healed a slightly different lenght to the other one. I strongly advise you get this checked out and be persistant with your doctor. He/She will eventually take you seriously. You don't this pain to affect you the rest of your life!

It's not always hurting, I got a weird thing today it just started throbbing for no reason, but then went. Strange things. I guess everyone has a 'wrong bone' somewher or other, I agree with 'merlin' it's just too much hassle. I'm fine anyway I'll live. It's hardly agony, just slight ache. Its probably laziness though, I can ride 8hours solid without it hurting on the bike so I guess walking uses different mussles than riding don't it?

yeah I had a simular thing, when working in Halfords I.e. standing up all day walking round etc. Like right behind my knee. Found it would hurt even more after working then sitting at a desk for a long period (revising) so decided to give up working and revising and now I'm a bum....

No really I found like stretching helped especially when trying to sleep! You know the lame type of stretching where you try to touch your toes!

actually, just read something in an assignemnt i had to for exercise physiology

the only reason they ache, is obviously coz you've been on your feet all day, you have little valvles in the viens in your legs that stop the back flow blood in them so they can get it back to the heart easier, now when your standing up all day, gravity takes effect and slightly hinders the body doing this, and also the muscles in your legs being constantly contracted when your standing

it'll stop for a little bit if you sit down for a few mins every so often

ive had screwed up knees for the past 5 years, basically ive got/hgad bursitis in both knees since i was 13/14 when i over compressed them jumping off a 12ft high wall on an assault course, there fine normally but every once in a while i tweak it and it flares up and i end up having to rest it for a few weeks. in short go to the docs, they will almost certainly prescribe you ibuprofen mousse which in my case did jack s**t, then stronger anti imflamatories-in the end they gave me motifene which is an osteoarthritis drug, but also a bloody strong anti immflamatory, works a treat...
