Fisheye's for digital Canon slr's?
« on: April 25, 2006, 20:47:36 PM »

Is the sigma one the only one still available for Canon?

And why haven't canon made one yet?

Thanks

Canon do make a fisheye. its a 15mm f/2.8 same as the sigma.

Trouble is, on anything other than a full frame/film camera, the fisheye effect is mostly lost (Due to the 1.6x crop factor)

Peleng make an 8mm fisheye which might give a better effect, but its completely manual. Its available in Canon fitment

Yeah as you say the canon fish doesn't work properly on their dslrs. Nikon corrected this for theirs yet canon still haven't.

I don't trust peleng at all, i've seen the resutls they're dreadful to be honest.

I don't really want the sigma but it's looking like i don't have a choice.

The sigma will be exactly the same as the canon in terms of how the image looks. Its not a fisheye specifically made for aps-c sensors. I have one, I don't use it that much though.

reviews of sigma fisheye http://www.fredmiranda.com/reviews/showproduct.php?product=75&sort=7&cat=38&page=1

For the money, the peleng actually does ok. It suffers a bit from lens flare, ok quite a bit from lens flare, but as long as you're careful where you point it the results are ok.

If you happen to be going to Porc for the may race, then you are welcome to try my sigma out.

I've used sigma lenses before and i don't really like the results,  i don't want third party glass i want canon, there must be a reason they don't make one.

Sorry i wouldn't touch a zentiar either, i'm not into chedap glass that is one place i won't skimp money on.

So isn't the sigma dg designed for crop factors i thought that was the whole point of them releasing their digital series of lenses and not jsut for the digital lens coating thing.

Lol, just because it says Canon on it doesn't mean its better than everything else out there. I started this way, bought Canon everything because I assumed that it was the best. When it comes to glass, canon isn't always the best bang for buck.

DG means designed for digital and film, it's DC lenses that are specific to APS-C sensors

That's very presumptious of you,

Nah i don't know more at all,   i have just never really liked third party glass it's a personal thing, i'm not saying the sigma is bad at all, i just personally prefer canon glass to other companies glass.

But it's looking as though i'll have no choice but to get the sigma unless i go nikon which i've been toying with the idea of lately.

If you really want Canon, get the Canon fisheye. It'd be the same as getting the Sigma, except it says Canon on it. Don't switch sides purely for the fisheye  Tongue
