Yep, just had a go and so long as you set both the flash and camera up right, it seems to work.

Instructions are fine, but you also need to read the ones in the SB600 manual to set the flash up correctly.

I use an SB600 on my D70.

It's plenty powerful - most of the galleries on my site, taken in the last year, used this flash.  For a real idea of how powerful it is, check out this gallery of indoor dirt jumps - fast action in really low light.  All shot with an ISO under 400, if I remeber rightly:

Some of them use off-camera flash and you can see how strong it is by the projection onto the ceiling!

By the way - the remote thing is pretty easy to set up and very effective.

If I were buying a flash again now, I'd save up the extra few pennies and get the SB-800.  Why?  Well, it's ultimately more powerful, it takes an extra cell for faster recylcing and you can add an external battery pack for even faster recylcing for flash on sequences.  But it's damn expensive!
