360 gone wrong
« on: May 26, 2006, 13:28:35 PM »

hey hey i was at our local step up other day and i tryed 360 which i have landed but not for a good while. I tryed it bike fell away from me and i landed on the inside of my right foot saw my shin wobble to the left and heard a click! Sad so i thought the crack come from my bike! i could jsut about walk around so i didnt think was tooo bad. but went hospital to get it checked and i snapped my fibular clean break.

just wondering has anyone else broken this bone and was its ok to ride after as its gonna be alot weaker after its broken.

Mark

p.s crutches are fun! but are crap for going a distance  :'(

ahh defintly get into filming mate, great fun to look back at the stuff youve done over the years. Ive got a couple of vids of when i was like 12, absouletly hillarious! As for the break i have no idea how long youll be off for. Depends on how bad it was but id guess (only a guess) it'll probably be a good few months

presuming it's in plaster, and you have no pain in your ankle then 6 weeks or so in the cast and then gentle rehab....... you'll be fine. isolated fibula injuries are rare, self limiting and nothing like a tibia fracture in terms of rehab. All bone heals stronger than it was before, the soft tissues (muscle and tendons in the main) if ripped take just as long to heal

So, get the cast off.... find a sports masseur (private, they cost... so what, it's your biking we are talking about here).... and do all the excercises and stretches they tell you to. You have the potential for this injury to heal totally and never bother you again, good luck.

a doctor will give you a time you won't be able to consider not riding for but its worth it, I sprained both ankles last summer quite badly and started riding 4 weeks instead of 12 weeks later. Biiiiiiiiiiiiiig mistake, they still hurt.....
Clean breaks heal really well though Smiley
