ACL repair and DH
« on: June 06, 2006, 18:15:15 PM »

Hi everyone

First post here so bear with me please!!

I have just had surgery to repair a broken ACL in my left knee, 180 when snowboarding went a bit wrong and pop....broken ligament... :'(

When I make a full recovery and can return to impact sports (9 months time according to specialists) I am hoping to start some serious riding, looking at learning some DH riding as well as shore and the odd bit of fast singletrack stuff.

i was wondering if anyone else has had an ACL replacement and if this has affected their riding, if they were told "no DH only XC" by any specialists. My physio says it wont be a problem, but shes not a rider so I thought I would ask some riders instead.

Thanks to all those who reply

No problems......both legs!!! Don't get any probs! Just keep your hamstrings and quads strong and you will be fine! Been racing for 12 years and they are still fine.

Yep ditto,

had my right one done 10 years ago, no problems riding DH, jumping etc.  Just keep the surrounding muscles strong and you'll be like the bionic (wo)man

I'm back to dh after 7 months and my physio has given me the all clear.

I'll report back on how it feels!

I rode without an ACL for several years, I then had one failed operation last year, I had it re-done yesterday! I have a Donjoy brace that I use for riding and will continue to do so even after I am given the all clear from this operation.

what happened with the failed operation, if you dont mind my asking? The DonJoy braces seem pretty hardcore! Are you using that for personal reasons or becuase you have been told to?
