BIG Suggestion!
« on: July 24, 2006, 12:39:43 PM »

hello everyone.

Just thinking as Scams are becoming more and more on this Forum and others.

How about for anyone wanting to sell or buy items must have like an ebay type of thing, where people can write Feedback about how fast or not to fast the delivery was etc.
Perhaps to Post in forsale section you must have like over 50 Posts, this will limit the ammount of people who come on create an account - buy/sell -  then just go back to what ever mbuk,Dw forum they come from.
Also helps Reduce the Risk of one off scammers surfing the net for Victims.

to me it sounded Possible and could work.
I'm sure someone will Quote me wrong.

thanks

some good and some bad ideas... i rekon what would be good if they do a minimum post count to let you buy and sell over 50 does sound fair..

but for everyone wanting to buy and sell has to give a working mobile / home and house address and verify it with another forum user who lives at least 200miles away or something?

yep i aggree with that.

have you noticed how all the newbies selling something dont even give an email address of where there from, not even an age. but then you look at ours for instance and its all filled out so everyone knows where were from and how old we are.

I now hope one of the Mods Read this.

this has come up before and they came to the conclusion that if they get ANY bad feedback, someone reports it to a mod and then the mods look into resolving it and deal with it accordingly

it does sound like a good idea but it can have some problems with people leaving bad feedback for what the seller see's as petty things.

but it would be good to get some more contact details for people like a house phone number or an address, something a bit more to go on than being told they live in england etc. hardly anyone gets many contact details off people, ive had this trouble before and it got resolved...

id say do 3 things when buying/selling

1. get contact details

2. use paypal/cheques or meet up (meeting up would probably be the best idea)

3. when sending do it quick to keep them happy or let them know of any reason why you might be dealyed in posting

and tbh the mods have enough to be getting along with without bothering about people getting bad feedback and being unhappy about it...

i was a newbie who only joined this site so i could sell my bike and buy a new one. about 98% of the newbies selling/buying are legitimate and are not out to scam or annoy people. they just want a bike like i did. after i sold my bike and then bought a new one i then started to explore more of this forum and started posting in other sections rather than Classifieds.

i think having more details available to everyone is a great idea and what should happen when someone new joins up is they get a meggage in their inbox with the rules of the forum no text typing etc and also about buying and selling. this would save jobs in moving topics to other places where they do belong and they could put a big search button picture at the top of the message.

i agree, make the form a safer marketplace.

i do sell and buy quite a bit so it would be nice.

and let people know what they are buying from.

even a part to let the mods have a direct contact number to a members house incase of 'those situations'

I think just a post count of say 5 or 10 would be ok, because you have to understand people do just want to use the forum for buying and selling, that's how I originally came here. 5 or 10 posts shows that they have made some sort of contribution and aren't idiots who might mess you about or scammers who don't have a clue about bikes really.

Maybe just delete posts that dont have the correct details. As in, if there is no proper contact details, no price and no picture, then the post is deleted immediately.

Sorry mate but i disagree with this one point. SDH is for serious riders and IMO, they shouldn't come on here to flog their stuff and "txt tipe". 50 posts would seem resonable, because to sell things, you would have had to take part in proper MTB discussuions, and not many fraudsters would want to waste time dong this. I also like the ebay style rating idea. Althougth for it to properly work, im sure there will be one or scams along the way. Ultimatly though, it will save alot of time and money. More importantly, boost the good reputation this forum deserves.

Just my two pennies.(althought not very costly, MODS take note)  Wink

If you think about it, most people who want to sell come on here post sell and leave.  IMO 95% of potential sellers will just think i cant be arsed and go somewhere else.

viperjack, i had an issue of him scamming 80quid iff me for some cranks i heard nothing and had it refunded by paypal, mods blacklisted him, im happy now.

robbybaker1, he had some m4's to send off, had a problem, not sure what happpened but he got blacklisted in the end.

please no arguments but these are just 2 to name a few.

mods do a good job if you inform them and tell them everything, if not nothing happens on here and theyre free to do it again, i think they run the classifieds really well, keep it tidy and pretty scam free Smiley

I can see what you mean, I think 10 posts would be necessary if this figure was kept secret (unlikely), then someone signs up, realises they can't get access to the classifieds and decides it's not worth it and moves on.
Otherwise people realise they only need to get 10 posts and just reiterate on what other people have said in topics or comment on peoples' photographs etc. making it easy to gain 10 worthy posts. But I think over a week or so, it would be easy to do this to get 50 posts.
