If I were you I'd keep it on the low. The only reason the track lasted so long was that it started out secret, it was locked with chains and "the public" were discouraged from riding there.

Totally, totally wrong. The track was built with the cooperation of UU from the get go.

The track was never a secret, it was clearly signposted all the way up that this was a private track, and you had to have permission to ride there, this was to stop idiots turning up and help control the numbers. The rules were made by UU, not Nessit Hill MTB. All you had to do to gain permission was call the number and turn up at the next ride.

There were a few high profile accidents, litter, vandalism of the chains/locks, and people riding the track when they shouldn't have been, thus it's been closed.

Of course, if you had ridden there legitimately, you'd know all of this. If not, keep schtum.

Maybe secret was the wrong word. It wasn't advertised on the internet to all and sundry shall we say, and the Nessit Hill club founded by Mike & pals stopped anyone who showed up on a halfrauds bike without a decent lid and body armour ("the public") from riding, lest they hurt themselves. This was agreed with United Utilities as a condition of them letting us build a track there.

Of course, if you weren't so busy being smug and pretending that you're the only person on this forum who is allowed to ride at Macc, you'd probably accept this version of events.

Touche,

My apologies for insinuating you were riding there illegitimately.

Not being smug at all, but you're right, secret was the wrong word. No it wasn't "advertised" as such, but how much exposure and advertisement do you expect, would like some kind of leaflet campaign? Yes there was a policy of not "encouraging" the local louts on halfrauds bikes, they tended to be the ones leaving litter in the car park/on the trail and being lippy with the walkers rangers, none of which was helpful.
