if thats the problem your having with an M1, i cant imagine youd find the kona much better.

if you want something lighter and more nimble, there are loads of bikes id go for over a kona stab, to be honest.

depends what you want to acheive. if you still want a proper race rig, then perhaps an appalache real.
if you dont want something quite as downhill race oreitated but can handle the hits, prehaps a secialized enduro sx or a santa cruz bullit.

In my opinion I would check that your M1 is set up properly, mine bobs but only as much as you would expect from a 9 inch travel dh bike.  The 5th Element shock is a complex beast and set up badly will be a pig, well set up and it will feel great, these shocks are designed to give a good pedalling platform as well as performing when the going gets bumpy!  All the Konas I have ridden have been bob tastic and wallowy when pedalling, I would never own one in their current guises because of this and certainly suggest testing one before swapping.

The best pedalling dh bike I have ridden was my old Orange 222, and when the M1 bites the dust the 224 or whatever it may be by then will certainly be on the list of potential replacements.
