So what actually happened? Where was the chalet? Did you have your bikes locked in the garage? Were the other "guide and friends" bikes locked up and yours weren't?

I know you guys are p*ssed about what happened but did you do anything to stop thieves?

Last year we had 10 bikes in the lobby of the chalet we were staying in and as many locks on them as we could possibly get, any thieves would have had to make a lot of noise to get them out and one of us would have heard. We were very concious that the bikes were a target and none of us (as far as I'm aware) were insured and didn't expect the chalet to be covered for it so we acted accordingly.

Really feeling for you guys, not sure what I'd do if my bike got stolen but I do know I'd want to find the culprit and beat him with it.

I think there is a lesson about insurance here.  If you have home insurance, put it on.  If you dont youre going to have to pay, it sucks but when your bike gets nicked you'll not feel so bad.  You can cover your bike on your travel insurance.

I heard what hapopened, we were down the road, we were on the main road, i think there is a correlation between thefts and hidden away lock ups.

I'd go see a solicitor though, at least the citizens advice bereau.

Sorry to hear about that but isn't it your responsibility to insure your own gear?

I don’t think any holiday companies cover their guest’s stuff do they?

Sorry, Shoot me down in flames call me a tw*t whatever...

you didn't ask for tem to be stolen, But come on Folks common sence !

IF you botthered to insure them (Very expensive when your talking about a 5 grand rig ) and read the small print, i bet a pound to a peice of poo it would of mentioned being locked to an non movable object, or locked inside it's own room, A shared garage don't count....

every time i have been to france we are surounded by people just leaving there pride and joy lying arround,,,, would you leave your bike unlocked out side your local tesco while you poped in for a loaf of bread,

Jay, I've had two bikes nicked - no hope of the cops ever finding them - too busy telling people to stop riding on pavements or nicking people for doing 31 in a 30 zone etc.

Its gutting and I too felt after the second one went that I'd had enough. For about a week I felt like it and then realised that you can't live without it. Riding is a drug (even if its more expensive than crack!). Its addictive and you won't be able to live without it...

Sell your stuff - body armour, pah. Full facer? pah! Sell all that to fund a cheap second hand jump or XC bike and a lid and go ride.

You'll be back  Wink

You just need a little inspiration:

Sorry for your loss, that's seriously pissing off, my parents hid my bike for a joke once and i thought it'd been stolen so i kinda know how you feel ( my parents have a sickk sense of humour) they should just build bikes with locks already integrated into the frames! so by cutting the lock you make the bike unrideable! genius i know  Grin

I can't belive you are trying to get your money back from the chalet owner. It is a bit naive to assume he will cover your bike in his chalet. We make it clear that bikes arn't covered and that they should be locked up inside our garage at you r own risk.

Still i feel for you it is the worst feeling in the world when you see that your pride and joy is gone never to be seen again.

Dude i know exactly how you feel, s**t happens, and when it happens, its shite. you feel like s**t.

if you weren't quitting bikes i'd suggest you dig out the mangeld old cheap hardtail everybike has lurking around, clear off the grime and go for a nice tour round the woods to clear your head and reflect on things gone by..

hang in there man

I would not leave my bike in a garage locked or not if it wasn't covered under an insurance policy.

If the chalet said that your bikes would be covered then you have a case to go to the courts.  I can't see why a chalet would cover everyones bikes as its an extra cost on most insurance policies.  Cost's like £2 a month to keep your bike insured.  Small price to pay for keeping £6000 safe I think

Excuse me, costs 2 pound a mont to insure a bike, n what bike is that... one of those finger bikes!

Simon A...... And when u were told the bikes would be covered on their insurance, thats when u would expect them to sort it out... its also naive to post a comment without knowing all the facts, nuff said!
