NPS 2007 to visit Ireland
« on: October 03, 2006, 17:17:35 PM »

Need to know how many people will come to Northern Ireland if we put a round of the 2007 NPS there, lots of the groundwork is already under way, the first question you will all ask is the cost. The ferry crossing will be subsidised by the Irish tourist board and will be £120 per van and 1 person + £20 for every other person in the vehicle. The planned date would fall on a Bank Holiday weekend Wink

ANY THOUGHTS?? positive or negative

Negative from me. Its already a pretty heavy cost for me coming from the South East to Wales, Scotland and the Midlands etc, but Northern Ireland would be too far and cost too much in reality. Ireland have their own NPS do they not? Would it not make more sense to keep it within the mainland?

And the Irish NPS run races in N Ireland.

What ferry routes will be subsidised, all or just a select few?

How much will a car be?

That cost along with the entry costs, camping costs, and not being able to practise the course easily before the races would put me and the team off. We wouldn't travel out there for it.
Great idea, but just makes it a bit too expensive

I do think it would be a nice idea but the added ferry crossing costs are just a little to much.

But France isn't in the UK, so the BCF won't allow a race there. Dave tried that last year and got told no.

Sounds like a fun road trip BUT

There will be fewer mainland riders there so who is going to make up the numbers?
I can't see many NI riders buying a racing license for just one round of the NPS.

Sorry Steve to expensive for us, at least with Fort William you are guaranteed a great course rain or shine and no uplift problems.

Nice idea but count us out.

I'm surprised, but the travel time hasnt been mentioned...10hrs to Belfast from liverpool for you southerners! Alternatively go round to douglas or stranrar and spend more money on petrol...hmm?

From edinburgh its pretty close, but is gonna cost almost three times as much. Cant see me racing there. Sorry.
