Not had a single crash in six months of using my Mac, mind you it does have a silly amount of RAM and a Duo processor. Not known of any crashing problems with the new ones either.

Get cable, If you can, you should

It has not been off once in 5 years and speed upgrades for free every 6 months or so.
Also no bandwidth limit.
