Much of the above really but maybe consider using some flat corners rather than all corners beings berms.

Also I 2nd the idea for a step up into step down, the Whistler Mountain Cross course had one and it was totally awesome as you just had to hit it pinned and could not break out of it easily.

Also if you have a look at some of the course on the World Cup Circuit and again the Whistler Mountain Cross course they have some drops / steps etc in them aswell.  On this years mountian cross course they had a loose right hand flat corner to 6 foot drop with about 10 foot gap to the landing.  Obviously you were able to roll it but if you hit it fast it was just super smooth.  Grin  Off course all of these suggestions depend on the size of the hill you are building on etc.

Big Jumps. Very steep berms.  Double split lines (big jump on one side, rythems on other, rider decides). Also, a tabletop the size of the hamsterley tabletop (as in height / distance).

Also, if possible, in a spare space make some dirt jumps, even if only 2 or 3, just some reasonably steep (i.e. not race jumps) 12 foot sort of stuff just good for practising tricks. I know you probably can't go crazy big...if you can...go as big as possible!

Sounds cool. When will it be open?

I guess alot of what can be built depends on how much space there is and also whether its on flat ground or downhill.

I would make all of the corners bermed so you dont have to brake as much for them, and also make the jumps nice and big so the riders actually have some air time rather than small roller jumps that you have to flatten if you hit them fast.

no!
doubles!
doubles are much better, they take more balls and less people injure themselves on them. people think that just because tables have earth in the middle, theyre safer. not if you cant jump theyre not...
i expect a lot of people on here will remember the long table in the les gets bike park. did you notice the ammount of, quite frankly, terrifying riding that jump saw? spend an hour or so watching people ride it, and youll almost certianly see at least one crash, and some horrible horrible stanley stiff backs, deadsailors and rim jobs. wathcing people ride that jump was scary, and is the perfect reason why doubles are better, because no one tries a double if they cant jump already.

anyway, in a 4x course, i would have the aforementioned big jumps (obviously), some more technical stuff that takes skill to ride (not just fitness, which seems to win the majority of 4x and bmx races) and maybe a drop or something. also, a couple of corners that arent just berms- as i said, it should be a course you need skill for.
to sum up, if you can get away with riding this course on a bmx or rigid bike, you havent built a 4x course.

Mix and match lines, these new courses with one wide track that's the same all the way down isn't as good as the old courses with different lines in corners and mixed jumps across straights

moguls.

theres a section at glentress that has moguls and ive always wanted them to be put in a track somewhere.
[thanks to skimarble]
in dalby forest they also have this cool 270degree corckscrew. you start at the top, and like a whirling slide go underneath what you've just ridden, great if the track only has a small contained area.
[thanks to singletrackworld]

incorporating a stepup step down is also a nessecity [sp].

good luck with the track on whatever you decide.

Stepdown out of the gate, maybe room for a couple of pedal strokes stright into a step down, good verticle drop to a steep landing giving you the speed for whatevers next.
Obvioulsy couldn't have a huge gap but would be a different start feature.

tight technical jumps, loose berms, mixture of both flat and bermed corners, little jumps, large jumps. mixture of everything, oh! and a fair first straight with a distance before the first corner, so the pack has time to spread out and make the first corner more fair, we had many problems in this years nps4x with starts being too close to the first corner, so the race becomes a procession, not a race, for inspiration, look at chicksands, just make it longer.... chicky has everything you need for a good mixture of everything, makes for awesome racing.

second the moguls idea, oh and that hornton line looks shiiiiite!! we dont want one line courses!!! no way!! get in touch with Chris Roberts @ nps4x.com and talk to him, maybe get a national round there next year.... another track would be very useful for the series... please make it wide (at least 15ft) as narrow tracks are crap for racing on...

Are you looking at it wrong, they are riding through a big double! It was really good because if you didnt get the corner before you weren't sure if you could make it you could go through the midddle which gives people behind a chance to catch up so it really mixed up the racing, it also seperated the men from the boys Grin

Surely just a big do or die jump would do that much better than that though?
It can be rolled but costs a few seconds so the men jump it and make up time, the boys roll it and loose time.....
