Ison Distribution had quite a few new interesting bits on show. Pat Campbell-Jenner, who fits a lot of Southerndownhill forum time in around racing 4X at a world level while working for Ison showed us around. It was a year that we were all talking about the new Renthal kit breaking in to the mountain bike market checking it out at Core. Things are really hotting up now with a full range of bars and production is well and truly here. The Renthal stem has changed a little. The inside of the stem has been milled out rather than the outside making it look a lot neater and keeping the weight way way down. No wide bar from them yet which is surprising as that’s what they are best at.
Chainrings look sturdy, made from the same material at the MX sprockets, these will be tough.
Identiti bikes looking shiny
Gusset have loads of new parts in production.
First up is their new stem line up, much neater and lighter than the old ‘brick’ looking lumps of alloy.
Wide bars of course, which Pat pushed for himself. 760 wide, 19mm rise and 12 degree back sweep. Note the fixie one piece bar as well if you must.
A new crank with external BB. Pat has been running these on the 4X bike for quite some time in proto stages. Come in all the ‘fashionable’ anodised colour options.
The Gusset plastic pedals now have a pin option, named the Gusset Pinhead.
R Series saddle in Denim, don’t get this wet!
Also entering the hydro brake market is the Gusset Chute Disc at £70 retail. Don’t get caught in these rotors!
Here is a fresh Identiti prototype frame. 140mm travel and adjustable dropout for QR or 10mm.
Another brand new frame, this is the new lighter version of the Krisis, the Krisis SL

Look at the inside of the new TSG lids. The foam has splits in it allowing the helmet to flex and fit perfectly around your head. It’s easily the comfiest helmet I have ever had on my head.

Whistles and spine protectors, seems to be a trend this year. We met up with the designer behind Lezyne to check out the new bags.
As soon as he opened the first bag is was clear a lot of thought has gone in to these bags. The attention to details is really impressive. Bags come with bladders, one with a 2litre, others all with three. Each bag has a helmet carrier, individual pockets for all your tools, a fleece lined pocket for MP3 players and a whistle built into the front buckle for when you get chased by a bear!
These bags also have a spine protector which is again removable. Works a bit differently though, this one has steel spines in which you can bend to fit the contours of your back when hunched over a bike and a mesh liner with pads lifting the main body off your back to keep you from getting to hot. We really liked the largest bag which even had a vented compartment to keep your wet gear in and buckles to hold your shin pads.

DMR’s new 898 dirt jump bike. This isn’t the final production spec but it looks amazing with the brown sidewalls and Reynolds wheels!

The largest bicycle brand in Argentina, Zenith are producing some bikes using the VPP system as seen on Santa Cruz and Intense bikes. These bikes may not even be coming in to the UK yet but if the price rumoured at around 1300-1500 is correct I’m sure they will become the affordable intense. And here is a real intense. The new slopestyle differs from the uzzi with a curved seat tube to allow for an extra brace at the rear to make it stiffer. It also doesn’t have the replaceable dropout system to bring the price down. This with a set of RS boxer forks could be a dam good UK DH bike |
