Pearce Cycles Round 3 Bala

Any round of the Pearce Cycles Series is always a great weekend out, with a well organised uplift, plenty of marshals and medics taking care of the riders needs, and of course Jannets Jackets looking after everyone with a supply of tea, cake and of course bacon baps!  Ryhd Fellin near Bala in Welsh Wales was the venue for round 3, It made a nice change not to have to drive for hours on end to get to the track, so I was up the hill early Saturday morning to get snapping. The track is extremely varied and many riders spent the weekend trying out different tyres. The top section is all loose gravel/shale then you head into the typically UK tight rooty loamy forest before shooting out the bottom onto grass. I saw every thing from minions to full spikes this weekend.

Every thing was going great both shooting and riding until the weather kicked in and decided we'd had enough sun. The rain came down hard for about 4 hours turning the open fast track into a mud bog with water running down the loose stone sections, making stooping a very difficult task.

By the end of Saturdays practice almost every one had settled on spikes in some form or another and all looked a lovely chocolate brownie colour, I left them to it and headed back home to get dry and ready for Sunday. Upon arriving Sunday morning I was greeted with bright clear skies and t-shirt temps yet again....not for long we had a brief heavy shower but thankfully the sun made a return and we were on for a good days racing.  The track was holding together very well and began to dry very quickly in places leaving people again confused by tyre choice.

Charlotte Hughes, one to watch out for in the future

By the time the elites were on track every thing was running fast with Mark Beaumont and Dave Smith both going sub 3minutes. Tracy Mosley took the win for the elite women with a time of  3:32
