If you went to the Alps in the summer you won’t have missed this new range of riding gear in all the shops. Now available in the UK from Fli Distribution, they sent us some of this kit for testing over the summer.

Six Motion Freeride Short

I've been wearing Six Motion's ‘Freeride Shorts’ loads this summer with quite a few offs involved and they still look brand new. These stylish new shorts are definitely tough with no sign of wear so far. They feature good pockets, in combat style on the legs, which shut easily thanks to the velcro fastening much like the top pockets. They are comfy and well fitting, with built in velcro adjustments on both sides of the waist to customise fit, two poppers and a big strong zip up front, and loops providing the option to run a belt. The short is all made from the same material, and features a netted inner. They do the job very well but lack some of the benefits found on shorts in a similar price range that utilise different materials and padding. Visually, the logo used on the back let these shorts down when compared to the styling of the rest of the range. These shorts come in four different colours and retail at £59.

Slim Tag 3/4 Sleeve Jersey

The race top is my favourite bit of this kit, check it out, it looks awsome. I was initially unconvinced by the idea of ¾ sleeves but they feel really good and are a lot less restrictive than full sleeves. The material this top is made from works really well. It’s breathable yet strong and the wind doesn’t go straight through it. It’s a great cut as well but be careful with the sizing as they come up very small. The colour and logo look great although being white, mine is looking a little worn in now. Although this is the only colour option in this style it sits next to the Mac Fly top, essentially the same but with brown sleeves and a different logo.

Six Motion Freeride Glove

I opted for the ‘Freeride glove’ which is the lighter weight style glove in the range. The gloves are a good fit and have a decent size wrist strap, and provide you with a towel thumb to wipe your brow which in use is a little overlong. The material on the palm gives a really good grip, although like many gloves they have a rubber type grip on the tips of the braking fingers which I just don’t feel works that well if the glove gets wet, not really helping you to grip that slippery lever. That said, the padding is perfect on the palm and I really like the light feel of these gloves without all the bulky padding, and at less than twenty pounds they are great value.

Overall I've been pleased with the quality of the Six Motion kit and definitely recommend it as an alternative to the Fox and Troy Lee clothing many other people sport. It’s all been put through many hours of riding and is all still looking great. Although the shorts might be a little expensive, they are sure to last a long time as will the stylish top and great quality, easy on the pocket gloves.
