Oury Grips

Image

Lock-on grips have been around for a number of years and have become an essential part of any downhill bike, far gone are the days of grips twisting like a throttle and slipping off in the wet. With the grip connected to the bars with two collars fastened on with small Allen key bolts, the Lock-on system is tried and tested and differs very little across different brands of grips.  I’ve had problems in the past with the small heads on the bolts rounding off and have seen some manufacturers with larger 3mm heads making the bolt a little more robust, it was a shame that these grips didn’t have this.  But if you make sure the head is clean, don’t over tighten and use a good set of keys then it should always be fine.

One of the noticeable features is that they are much thicker than most grips, including the ODI Ruffians that I have used previously.  In fact the first run I had using  these I just wanted to take them straight off after getting arm pump, but a small adjustment to the position I gripped the bars and  this soon stopped. Having tested the grips for a number a few months I now wouldn’t change back, one of the reasons being the thickness seems to take away some of the vibrations from the trail and the comfy soft compound which is yet to show any signs on wearing down.  The pattern on the grips provides good grip in wet and dry conditions as well as when coated in mud following a crash.

The set also comes with a large caps that screw into the end of the bar offering protection from the metal collars yourself and other bikes on the uplift.

The Oury grips are high quality and based around a successful design.  If you don’t like fat grips then this model may not be for you although after my experience I would suggest trying them.
